Indiana State University alumnus Dr. Julius Edwards has been named president of Eastern Maine Community College in Bangor, Maine, bringing more than 15 years of higher education leadership experience to the role.
Edwards, who earned his doctorate in higher education leadership from Indiana State University’s Bayh College of Education, was appointed by the Board of Trustees of the Maine Community College System following the recommendation of system President David Daigler.
Prior to joining Eastern Maine Community College, Edwards built an extensive career at Ivy Tech Community College in Indianapolis, serving in a series of increasingly responsible leadership positions. His roles included vice chancellor of academic affairs, dean of the School of Business & Supply Chain Management, director of the transfer center, and assistant director of the financial aid office.
Throughout his career, Edwards has focused on expanding student access and success, strengthening academic quality, developing partnerships with employers and other educational institutions, and ensuring academic programs respond to changing workforce needs.
At Ivy Tech, Edwards oversaw a diverse portfolio of academic programs that included agriculture, advanced automation and robotics, supply chain management, culinary education, and commercial driving. He also worked to align academic programs with industry trends and develop short-term workforce training opportunities in high-demand fields. In addition to his administrative leadership, Edwards served as an adjunct professor teaching business courses.
Edwards also holds a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University and a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.
Eastern Maine Community College enrolls more than 2,700 students at its Bangor campus and off-campus center in East Millinocket. It is one of seven colleges in the Maine Community College System.
Edwards’ appointment reflects the impact of Indiana State University’s Bayh College of Education in preparing graduates for leadership roles throughout higher education and reinforces the reach of Sycamore alumni serving students and communities across the country.
