With the season of giving quickly approaching and Covid-19 taking a toll on many families’ financial state, WZIS-FM, Indiana State University’s student radio station, is collecting donations for Toy for Tots.
Toys for Tots is a program run by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve to collect and distribute toys to children whose parents can’t afford gifts for Christmas. This will be the fifth year that WZIS has paired with Toys for Tots to bring gifts to underprivileged children.
WZIS-FM will be located at the Fountain on Thursday, and again Nov. 12 and 19, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. They will be playing music and collecting donations for local families in need.
Jillian Bontjes, a senior Communication major from Danville, Ill., has helped run and plan the event for three years.
“I’m so grateful that we get to partner with Toys for Tots every year. It’s awesome that WZIS gets to help give back to the community a bit, and I always look forward to it,” Bontjes said.
Rich Green, manager of WZIS, said, “It is awesome to be able to use this platform for those in need and give students the opportunity to work with other organizations in Terre Haute. We chose Toys for Tots because we are all kids at heart.”
