On Thursday, March 23rd at 6pm in the Yang Family University Art Gallery acclaimed poet Mary Biddinger will read for the Theodore Dreiser Visiting Writers Series. Q&A and book signing will follow. This event is free and open to the public.
Mary Biddinger is the author of seven poetry collections, most recently Department of Elegy and Partial Genius: Prose Poems, both with Black Lawrence Press. She is also co-editor of The Monkey and the Wrench: Essays into Contemporary Poetics. Her poems have appeared in a variety of journals, including The Laurel Review, Pithead Chapel, and Poetry. Biddinger’s flash fiction has been published in Always Crashing, DIAGRAM, and Southern Indiana Review, among others. Biddinger is Professor of English at the University of Akron, where she teaches literature and creative writing courses, and serves on the faculty of the NEOMFA: Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts program. She has received awards from the Cleveland Arts Prize, Ohio Arts Council, and National Endowment for the Arts.
Biddinger received degrees in English and creative writing from the University of Michigan, Bowling Green State University, and the University of Illinois Chicago. She joined the faculty of the University of Akron in 2005, and since 2008 she has edited the Akron Series in Poetry for the University of Akron Press.
