Seeking current or recent online learners interested in participating in a research study? Take a quick 10-minute survey.

A Phenomenological Study of Motivation in Online Learners and Its Relationship to Self-Awareness. You are being invited to participate in a research study. This study aims to find out if being self-aware of your motivations impacts your performance in online learning. This document will help you decide if you want to participate in this research by providing you with information about the study and what you are asked to do.

The survey is limited to those who have successfully completed at least one online course, enrolled in online coursework in the last six months, and are at least 18 years old. Your participation will involve a short 10-minute survey concerning your online learning experiences. Some reasons you might want to participate in this research are that it may help you gain insight into your motivations in completing online coursework, and may provide a greater understanding of this phenomenon, which could benefit other online learners. Some reasons you might not want to participate in this research are if you are not comfortable sharing your learning experiences with others, or if you feel this commitment exceeds your interest in this topic of research. You will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card for completing the survey. A name and email address will be required to enter the drawing. The choice to participate or not is yours; participation is entirely voluntary. You can decline to participate or withdraw at any time. No one will know whether you participated or not in the survey. You can choose not to respond to any of the questions or close the browser to discontinue your participation at any time. After the survey, we would only be able to withdraw your previously submitted data if you have provided your email.

If you do want your research data withdrawn, we ask you to inform us within 14 days of completing the survey. This is an anonymous survey, and no identifiable information will be collected from participants unless they decide to be in the drawing for the gift card. Although every effort will be made to protect your answers, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed over the Internet. Following the survey, you will have the opportunity to become a participant in the full research, which will include a 60-minute interview and potential for a 15-30 minute follow-up interview. In this case, every effort will be made to protect your confidentiality.
