Dr. Yuichiro Nakajima, Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo will present a research seminar on adaptive growth, regeneration, and reorganization on August 13, 2024 in the Science Building, room S216, from 12:00-1:30 p.m.
During the presentation, Dr. Nakajima will introduce recent work that has revealed physiological dedifferentiation in the adult fly midgut under nutritional fluctuations. He will also discuss insight we have gained during the study of organ regeneration and organismal reorganization in jellyfish. This suggests the existence of unprecedented plasticity from cell to organism levels during environmental responses and implicate similar mechanisms may operate in more complicated animals.
After receiving his PhD at the University of Tokyo, Dr. Nakajima joined the lab at the Stowers Institute for Medical Research. There, he investigated the relationship between mitotic spindle orientation and tumor progression and published beautiful papers in Nature and the Journal of Cell Biology.
