The Summer Math Refresher program is open to any student enrolled at Indiana State University in the upcoming academic year. Both paths (Algebra or Pre-Calculus) are designed to benefit students that plan to take a math course in the fall, but may not be confident in the skills necessary to succeed in that math class. In particular, the math refresher programs are designed to help students prepare for Math 035 (Intermediate Algebra), Math 105 (Quantitative Reasoning in Business), Math 115 (College Algebra), Math 123 (Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry), Math 129 (Fundamentals and Applications of Calculus), Math 241 (Principles of Statistics), Math 131 (Calculus I), or Math 132 (Calculus II).
Cost to students is $50 which may be earned back in the form of a Barnes & Noble textbook credit if the student successfully completes the program. The student will also be eligible to retake the Maple TA math placement test at a designated, proctored location. The program will run July 6 – August 7, 2020 online through Blackboard. There will be a calendar of topics given, but students are welcome to set their own timetable. Tutors will also be available virtually and will serve as mentors.
On average, students who complete the program:
• Increase their placement score
• Do better in their math course than the general population
• May test into a higher math class
• Learn necessary college skills
