Thanks to the support of the Center for Student Research and Creativity, six very deserving students were selected by faculty in the Department of Art and Design to receive the Summer Term Art Research Scholarship (STARS). These students received financial support that allowed them to pursue their creative research during the 2021 summer term. Working with faculty mentors Nancy Nichols-Pethick and Chester Burton, the students had the rare opportunity to pursue their artmaking outside the restrictions imposed by assignments and grades. This is an invaluable experience for a young artist; the work included in this exhibition reflects the challenges and triumphs that are an integral part of the creative process.
