The online Summer Algebra or Pre-Calculus Refresher is for all Sycamores. Prepare for your fall math course while learning math concepts and ISU technology. Upon completion of the program and evaluation, participants will be placed in the appropriate mathematics class for the fall 2022 semester (possibly eliminating the need for prerequisite courses). Virtual tutoring support via the Math Lab will be available with the program!
The Summer Math Refresher program is open to any student enrolled at Indiana State University in the upcoming academic year. Both paths (Algebra or Pre-Calculus) are designed to benefit students that plan to take a math course in the fall, but may not be confident in the skills necessary to succeed in that math class. In particular, the math refresher programs are designed to help students prepare for Math 025 (Algebra for Quantitative Literacy), 035 (Intermediate Algebra), Math 102 (Quantitative Literacy), Math 105 (Quantitative Reasoning in Business), Math 115 (College Algebra), Math 116 (Pre-Calculus), Math 123 (Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry), Math 129 (Fundamentals and Applications of Calculus), Math 241 (Principles of Statistics), Math 131 (Calculus I), or Math 132 (Calculus II).
Cost to students is $60. The program will run July 5 – August 5, 2022 online through Canvas. There will be a calendar of topics given, but students are welcome to set their own timetable. The program is facilitated by ISU Math Department instructors. Math Coaches (tutors) will be available virtually and will serve as mentors.
On average, students who complete the program:
• Do better in their math course than the general population
• May test into a higher math class
• Learn necessary college skills
