Indiana State University students had the opportunity to enter the dynamic world of Lids during an industry visit to the company’s corporate headquarters on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. This experiential learning opportunity was coordinated by Carrie Lutz, Executive Director of the Career Center, in partnership with Jennifer Mullen, Senior Instructor of Marketing and Director of the Networks Leadership Program at the Scott College of Business.
The visit was made possible through collaboration with Tara Cassidy, Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist at Lids and an Indiana State alumna. Students were immersed in the company’s vibrant culture, which is built on the mission to “Have Fun, Sell Hats.”
During their time at Lids, students engaged with key leaders, including Robin Smith, Manager of HR and Learning and Development, and Kyle Dickerson, Sr, Director of Integrated Business Planning and Strategic Initiatives. They also participated in a panel discussion featuring young professionals at Lids, gaining insights into the company’s operations and career pathways. Through these interactions, students learned how various departments—supply chain, marketing, accounting, finance, and design—work together to drive the brand’s success.
Freshman Sophia Fallowfield shared her enthusiasm about the visit, stating,
“Tara Cassidy and each employee of Lids made my experience there unforgettable. Lids is a company where everyone thrives while also having opportunities to innovate. I am thankful for this visit because it made me realize what kind of company I want to work for.”
Reflecting on the impact of the visit, Carrie Lutz, Executive Director of the Career Center, emphasized the importance of industry engagement for students:
“We are grateful to Lids for taking the time to host us and create an engaging experience. And to the Scott College of Business staff and the college team for asking engaging questions and being curious with industry partners. The more we can make these connections before graduation, the more robust the experience is for both collegians and employers in the recruitment process.”
The visit reinforced Indiana State University’s commitment to providing students real-world exposure to industry leaders, ensuring they graduate with the knowledge and connections needed to excel in their careers.
