Indiana State University Mourns the Loss of Dr. Linda K. Walters, Alumna, Professor, and Associate Director in the School of Nursing

Dr. Linda K. Walters

Dr. Walters began her journey at Indiana State University as a student nurse going on to earn her MSN and PhD with us. She practiced nursing in a wide variety of settings including Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis and Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. She began her career as an educator and scholar at Indiana State University in 2006 and rapidly became indispensable to the nursing programs. She worked her way up the faculty ranks, earning promotion to Professor in 2023. Dr. Walters was known for her passion for students, particularly helping them to prepare for and pass the licensure examination. She was active in shared governance and served unstintingly to support students and colleagues. Dr. Walters made significant contributions to the scholarship of teaching and learning as well as in her areas of expertise in adult medical/surgical nursing, publishing in prestigious journals such as Nurse Educator and MedSurg Nursing. She was a regular presenter at national and international conferences.

Dr. Walters was known for sharing her love of travel, boating, and her family. Many of us followed her social media posts as she and her husband, Darin, built a new home for themselves and their family.

There is no doubt that Dr. Walters was instrumental in improving the lives of her patients, helping students become compassionate and competent nurses, and mentoring and nurturing her colleagues to provide the best possible learning environment. We are grateful for the short time that we had the privilege to work with her.

You may find more information about Dr. Walters and the final arrangements here.
