The Gamma Iota Sigma (GIS) business fraternity at Indiana State University recently received Distinguished Chapter Status. Gamma Iota Sigma is a professional student organization that promotes, encourages, and sustains interest in insurance, risk management, and actuarial science professions. With 110 chapters nationwide and more than 5,500+ members, the Scott College of Business Alpha Epsilon Chapter is one of only eight to receive this high-level recognition, which is the first time in its 40-year history.
“In just two short years, Gamma has transformed my collegiate experience as I’ve been connected with industry leaders in my major, gained immersive internships, traveled across the country, and built friendships that will last a lifetime! I can confidently say that I will use what I have gained from this amazing organization for the rest of my career and know I will continue to receive outstanding support and benefits from our Chapter,” states Tim Smith, junior at Indiana State and Chapter President of GIS.
“As faculty advisor, I have seen firsthand how GIS elevates our students’ academic and professional journeys. Achieving Distinguished Chapter Status reflects the dedication, leadership, and collaborative spirit our officers and members bring to every initiative. This organization connects our students to unparalleled networking opportunities, national industry engagement, and hands-on experiences that prepare them to excel in their careers. More than a student organization, GIS fosters a community of support, growth, and lifelong connections that enrich our entire program serving to strengthen our reputation across the state and the industry,” said Dr. Jin Park, Chairperson and Associate Professor for Accounting, Finance, Insurance and Risk Management Department.
