Hendrix named Member of the Year by Fraternity and Sorority Life

Ashlyn Hendrix, a senior communication and media studies major from Marshall, Ill., was named Member of the Year by fraternity and sorority life. This award is the highest honor given to a member in Greek life.

Besides being a member in the Chi Omega sorority, Hendrix is the general manager of Sycamore Video and involved in the Honors Council. Hendrix had always dreamt of receiving this award and thought that she was deserving but didn’t anticipate actually winning.

“To be given this award feels awesome,” Hendrix said. “I am so thankful to everyone who has helped me get to this point in my life, and I can’t wait to continue giving back to the community! It’s beyond exciting to be a part of this long line of incredible women.”

The application process to be named Member of the Year includes many essays and interviews. They are evaluated on many criteria including leadership within the chapter, involvement in campus activities, scholarship, and career achievement. Hendrix scored high in these categories from her recruitment statistics in 2020 and her involvement in Sycamore Video that allowed her to promote Greek organizations.

“I absolutely think that Student Media played a huge part in me getting this award,” said Hendrix. “Being in Sycamore Video has shown me just how much influence we can have as members of the media, and how we should use our superpowers for good. Being in Sycamore Video taught me to be resilient, innovative, and adaptable. All three of those things were essential to my success as Recruitment Chair of Chi Omega. “

Hendrix has received recognition for her award all around campus. When awards were being announced she was in the Sycamore Video studio. They were all watching to see her reaction and to make sure and congratulate her. In the Chi Omega sorority, this is the third year in a row they have had a member given this award so Hendrix feels very proud.

“This award is something that I think will stand out to my future employers as a testament to my work ethic and drive. Being in Chi Omega has helped me to grow as a leader and helped me to develop values that I will hold for the rest of my life,” Hendrix said.
