The Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence and the Mentoring Center invite applicants to the fourth cohort for the Faculty Mentoring Certificate. This initiative is part of the US- Department of Education Strengthening Institution Grant recently awarded to Indiana State University. The Mentoring Center has the mission of supporting “the Sycamore Family in creating and maintaining engaged relationships that promote academic, professional, and personal development.” This Faculty Mentoring Certificate is an important component of the goals set by the Mentoring Center.
The Faculty Mentoring Certificate Program is 2 semesters long and is designed to emphasize the role faculty can take as instructors and mentors in promoting Student Success around campus. The faculty cohort will be introduced to resources and initiatives at ISU which target Student Success and student well-being and given opportunities to collaborate with some of those units. This includes opportunities to connect with staff and students involved in the Mentoring Center, Project Success, the Advising Center, and University College, the MAPS and ISucceed Program, as well as other offices on campus. Another focus of this year’s programming is to allow the faculty cohort space to work with students to get a student-centric understanding of Student Success and the role faculty play in achieving that. Finally, the cohort will explore various instructional resources and develop instructional designs to enhance student success in their classes. Participants will leave the program with deeper connections with Student Success initiatives around campus and will serve as identifiable point-people within their own colleges and departments to assist other faculty members interested in collaborating on Student Success activities.
This program will take place throughout the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters, with 5 meetings planned for the Fall 2022 semester and 5 meetings planned for the Spring 2023 semester. The meetings for Fall 2022 are currently scheduled on Thursday afternoons at 3:30 and will be in person at the FCTE. The scheduled sessions for the Spring 2023 semester are TBD. There is a modest stipend for participants. This opportunity is open to instructors, lecturers, tenure-track, and tenured faculty who have been at Indiana State University for at least one academic year.
