The Sustainable Cities (SC) Program invites faculty to participate in the 2025–2026 academic year in partnership with the City of Terre Haute, the Terre Haute Sustainability Commission, and several local nonprofit organizations. Those who participate in the program will receive a stipend of $500.
The SC Program is an experiential learning initiative that connects Indiana State University students with real-world sustainability challenges in Indiana communities. Through interdisciplinary coursework, students and faculty collaborate with local partners to address pressing issues—ranging from strategic planning and community needs assessments to waste management strategies and trail system mapping.
This year-long partnership allows faculty to integrate community-based projects into their courses. Each course works closely with a specific community partner to develop innovative, actionable solutions. These partnerships not only provide valuable learning experiences for students but also deliver tangible outcomes that support local leaders in advancing their sustainability goals—despite limited resources.
A list of proposed projects identified by community leaders is attached. These projects offer excellent opportunities for hands-on learning and meaningful impact.
If you’re interested in participating in Fall 2025, please review the project list (below) and contact Cayle Moreo at Cayle.Moreo@indstate.edu.
