Ian Carey, the Permanent Art Collections Curator at Indiana State University, will reflect on recent acquisitions to the Permanent Art Collection at Indiana State University and how they relate to his future goals for the collection. The lecture will focus on three main themes—the body and its contemporary portrayal, contemporary photography, and our shifting understanding of abstraction with a question and answer session to follow.

Admission to the event is free and the public is invited. No R.S.V.P. is required. Light refreshments will be available. For more information call 812-235-2801 or write to

Beyond Ian’s curatorial responsibilities, he is a Lecturer for the Political Science department at ISU. Before moving to Terre Haute, he as taught courses in Painting, Drawing, The Philosophy of Art, and Museum Studies. He is also a working artist that has shown pieces nationally. His artistic practice seeks to allegorically portray the difficulties and anxieties found within the day-to-day realities of the American working class.
