Hispanic Latino Alliance (HLA)

Hispanic Latino Alliance’s (HLA) first meeting for the spring semester is in the HMSU, room 321, on Thursday (1/22), from 5-6 pm.

What is HLA?

The Hispanic Latino Alliance is dedicated to helping Hispanic students find a home at Indiana State University and succeed academically, professionally, and personally. HLA hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration, Día de Los Muertos Celebration, Valentine’s Day Dance, field trip to Chicago, HLA fundraising event and participation at the Indiana Latino Institute Legislative Breakfast in Indianapolis.

Students also have opportunities to travel and engage in meaningful cultural and service experiences. Each year, HLA takes a day trip to Chicago to visit the Art Institute, the National Museum of Mexican Art, and other cultural sites. In addition, members have traveled internationally to explore the pyramids of Chichen Itza in Mexico and participated in Indiana State’s Alternative Break trip to Puerto Rico.

HLA also has an office on the 7th floor of HMSU, serving as a hub for cultural programs, activities, awareness-building, and celebrations. This space was developed to amplify the rich heritage of Hispanic cultures at Indiana State. All HLA events are designed to support the retention and graduation of multicultural students by fostering a sense of community through intellectual, social, and cultural exchange, while also creating safe spaces for dialogue about students’ experiences and concerns.
