Theodore Dreiser Visiting Writers Series featuring Phong Nguyen October 26th

Historical fiction author Phong Nguyen will read for the Theodore Dreiser Visiting Writers Series on Thursday, October 26th at 6pm in the Yang Family University Art Gallery, in the Landini Center for the Performing and Fine Arts. This event is free and open to the public.

Phong Nguyen is the author of five books: Memory Sickness (winner of the Elixir Press Fiction Award), Pages from the Textbook of Alternate History, Adventures of Joe Harper (winner of the Prairie Heritage Book Award), Roundabout (a Missouri Authors Series selection) and most recently, Bronze Drum—named one of NPR’s Best Books of the Year in 2022 and featured or reviewed favorably in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Saint Louis Post-Dispatch, Minneapolis Star Tribune, and many other newspapers and journals. He currently serves as the Miller Family Endowed Chair in Literature and Writing at the University of Missouri, where he teaches fiction writing.

Bronze Drum is a “gripping historical adventure” of ancient Vietnam based on the true story of two warrior sisters who raised an army of women to overthrow the Han Chinese and rule as kings over a united people”(Booklist).
